Losing A Client

Losing a client hurts. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in the web development game for a year or over a decade—it’s always a tough pill to swallow.

But if you aren’t treating your losses as data, you’re missing the real value. We recently had a major web project walk away. Looking back at the timeline, the warning signs were there from week two:

Scope Creep: Letting small requests slide without documentation.
Communication Gaps: Assuming “no news is good news” during the development phase.
Alignment: Not matching our final delivery pacing with their changing internal business goals.

Instead of sweeping it under the rug, the team and I sat down for a brutal post-mortem. In my latest Short, I’m pulling back the curtain on the entire situation and sharing the exact structural changes we’re bringing to our client onboarding and staging reviews to protect our projects moving forward.
