This estimate holds especially true for blog entries. With most blogs, the top of the post contains the date, time, and author of that specific post. If you don’t have meta tags, Google grabs that and places it within your description. When Google reads metadata on a blog, it generally replaces that date and time stamp with the meta description. So why is this important?
Google loves pages that have high click-through rates within their organic search results. If your meta tags are appealing enough, you can entice the user to click on your link. Provided that your meta tags are relevant to the content that you’ve posted, you’ll see an increase in your click-through rates. Therefore, if your click-through rate increases because of the appeal of your meta tags, then you could see a shift in your rankings on Google.
One thing we will say is that meta tags don’t have an immediate effect, especially on newer websites. Like all new sites, you need to build up some real history with Google to encourage your rankings on the website. Meta tags are strict to improve your overall user experience. Changing them will immediately have absolutely no impact on your organic rankings.
So while you shouldn’t spend an excessive amount of time on your meta tags, it’s essential to realize that, depending on what data Google and other search engines display, your meta tags could ultimately affect your click-through rates, as well as your organic rankings. Taking the time to utilize your meta tags won’t make you an overnight success, but not doing so could hurt your chances of that.
