Website Sale 4 (Standard Business Website Sale)

At Final Web Design, every new sales call is more than just a conversation — it’s the start of building a partnership and bringing a client’s vision to life online. Recently, we had an exciting call with a potential client looking to create a brand-new website, and it reminded us why we love what we do. This is another website sale for a standard business website with Final Web Design.

What Happens After a Website Project Is Agreed

The sales conversation is the visible part of a web project, but most of what determines whether it goes well happens in the weeks immediately after. A standard business website is a well understood piece of work, and the projects that run late almost never do so because the design or development was unexpectedly hard.

Kickoff and Scope Confirmation

The first working session should restate the scope in plain terms: how many pages, which features, how many design revision rounds, what the client is providing and what the firm is producing. Ambiguity that survives kickoff turns into a disagreement later, usually at the point where changing something is most expensive. This is also where to agree who has final approval, because projects with three decision makers and no tiebreaker stall in review.

Content Collection Is the Critical Path

On a standard business site, content is almost always what determines the timeline. Copy, logos in usable formats, photography, staff details, service descriptions, testimonials and legal pages all have to come from somewhere. Give the client a structured request with a page by page breakdown and a deadline rather than a vague ask for content, and be explicit that the build cannot finish without it. If the client wants the firm to write the copy, that is a separate line item with its own schedule.

Milestones Rather Than One Big Reveal

Showing a client the finished site for the first time at the end is a mistake. Structured checkpoints, typically a sitemap approval, a design direction approval, then a staging review of the built pages, keep everyone aligned and keep feedback proportionate. Small corrections at each stage are far cheaper than a fundamental objection raised at the end.

Handling Revisions and Scope Changes

Revision rounds should be defined in number and in what they cover. New requests that fall outside the agreed scope are not a problem in themselves, they are simply additional work, and treating them as a normal priced change rather than an awkward conversation keeps the relationship intact. The alternative, absorbing an endless drift of small additions, is how fixed price projects lose money.

The Launch Checklist

Before going live: set up redirects from any old URLs, verify analytics and search console, submit a sitemap, test every form and confirm submissions arrive, check the site on real phones rather than only in a browser preview, confirm the TLS certificate is valid, take a backup, and make sure any staging copy is no longer indexable. Missing redirects and an indexable staging site are the two most common and most damaging launch errors.

Handover and What Comes Next

A handover should include a walkthrough of how to update content, documentation of where things live, and a clear statement of what ongoing support covers. Sites decay without maintenance, so agreeing on updates, backups, monitoring and periodic review at handover is better for both sides than waiting until something breaks.
